What do you consider to be the major public education issues today?

What do you consider to be the major public education issues today? Can you possibly give me some possible causes, effects, and resolutions.

1. There are a few topics I can think of: Public Schools requiring uniforms Bush's "No Child Left Behind" Program High/Low test scores in High Schools I hope these help
2. Just look at the questions being asked and it tells you what is a major problem with public education...the students. They certainly can't spell, a majority can't read, and they can't put a simple sentence together. Whose fault is it?? Not the teachers. They go to work to teach but are met with resistance from the students. They have an "I don't care " mentality. Uniforms is not the problem. Uniforms puts everyone on the same level and eliminates the distraction of who's wearing what. When students understand that learning is for learning's sake and everything you learn does have a purpose, then maybe our education system will compete with other countries on a higher level.
