What is the difference between a major in general education and a major in history education?

I want a major in education, and I would like to teach history, but would I be better off with a major in history ed. or in general ed.? and why?

  1. Well your quesion is confusing. General Ed is the term used for getting those basic clases taken care of in say like college to earn your AA/AS such as art, history, politcal science, and so on. Then the other 20 or so units you take make up ur minor/major, so then you would take the world histories, the US histories, and all that.
  2. Most education programs will require you to have a background in the subject you intend to teach. In other words, if you pursue a general education degree, you will likely have to take several courses in history on top of your major requirements in order to qualify for the appropriate certificate to teach history. If you are sure that it is history you want to teach, focusing in that area for your teaching degree will probably be the most useful path. Good luck!
