What do you think is the purpose of education?
I would just like to know your opinion for a class I'm taking. Please help me out by just leaving your age and if you work in a school environment as well as your answer. Thanks so much!

- I THINL THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATION IS 4 PEOPLE 2 SEE WHAT LEVEL YOUR UP 2 SO YOU CAN GET A GOOD JOB AND KNOW A LOT ABOUT LIFE. U KNOW BE VERY EDUCATED
- Personally, I DON'T think its for job training. Though, you can get educated in certain trades. Education teaches you how to think effectively and critically. 43 :)
- the purpose depends on the person. if they they see a purpose for it at all... for me the purpose is to become a more well rounded smarter person, so that i can succeed and understand the world better.
- Education increases your own self worth, knowledge and employability. .... 56 and I do not work in a school environment.
- Knowledge
- well thats a tough one. if you look at it on the individual level then the purpose of education would be to assist you in becoming successful. however on the collective side for the whole of humanity, education is about discovering new things opening our world for us and ofcourse m aking life easier and more interesting to live in.
- the purpose of education is to teach us about our world so we will know enough to make good decisions. education is also meant to help us understand the world around us so we aren't scared of things, people, and places that are unfamiliar to us. i'm 16...still in school :-)
- 53, retired from public school work: To bring out the capacity in people to decide the most humane response in any situation: the response which will best further both their own, personal goals, and the goals of humankind as a whole, interconnected and interdependent group.
- in general school is a preparation for independence, however it is also a govt approved brainwashing facility. cheers!
- Education is supposed to prepare you for the "real world" job market, which it does not. Although it does teach us to think critically, and effectively solve problems. Also the "trade" education system is often overlooked, but the people educated there are keeping our way of life intact everyday. I learned most of what I needed to know from life and interacting with people and reading (which we didn't do very much of in my public school system). So... 1. Social Networking with your peers 2. Critical Thinking 3. Learning if you want to CONTINUE your education. 29, I could never work in a school.
- I think that there are certain studies that allow us to throw off our ideological complacencies. In other words, certain humanities allow us to recognize how our original notions, that we once considered 'obvious' and 'natural' are anything but. Something as radical as our understanding of human sexuality, for example, or the ways in which humans see their relationship with society, can be challenged in a study of, say, the ancient Greeks. Humanities also allow us to cultivate our critical faculties. We can understand that certain modes of expression are unfair and propagandic figurings rather than careful and appropriate representations. A very basic example might be that, fairly early on in a GCSE course for English literature, we understood the inherent risks of describing the events of 1939 as "Vegetarian urges imperial expansion". These are all fairly basic examples, but you get my drift. As for the age and occupation: I'm a 20 year old English student at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. I hope that helps for your class.
- age: 46. deal with teachers in retail selling books. Register them for cards to save them money in the store. The purpose of education is to understand the world around you, To communicate with others, (knowing others,) and to learn the skills needed to cope with the world. (knowing yourself most important.
- Our world is getting developed. Too advanced. And lots of new projects and companies are blasting up. The whole society is educated and working in some hot field. If you are not educated and is not aware of anything you stand blinking at the world's events and processes. Not only that, everyone likes their spouse to be educated in some or the other hot fields.
- Well, the dictionary defines school as "a place of learning" and we are technically learning all throughout our entire lives. So, therefore, life is one by school and one big learning experience. So, the purpose of education is somewhat of a motivation to go out and take risks, make mistakes, learn from anything and everything, anyone and everyone. If you're willing to go out, be open to making mistakes and getting an education from it, then you're in a way improving your life by becoming more intelligent and being able to pass on so many more facts and wise informations. So, in short, the purpose of education is a motivation to live life to the fullest and keep an open mind to everything that could happen.
- I think the true purpose of education is to develop each individuals creativity, perspective of the world, and general knowledge. I think two of the most important things learned through education are the ability to think for yourself and the ability to gain an understanding of others. I believe education should give everyone the ability to live in the world as well as change the world.
