What is the main purpose of education?
Education is mandatory, yet there is no consensus on what it's for. I'm looking for opinions.

- It's to make you think and question everything around you.
- Anyone who doesn't know what education's for is an idiot. I suggest MORE education (the first time didn't seem to stick very well)
- To know your life and other things.
- To grow and learn. It's a beautiful thing to see yourself make the best of life with the smarts to get to where you want to be. Try taking a dancing class and feel the results in a short time.
- It's designed to make the populous effective in providing 'services' for the rich. They needed educated folks for the industrial revolution, for example. That's why they force it upon the poor.
- To enhance your critical thinking skills, increase your reading comprehension and mathematical abilities and promote a healthy sense of self as you relate to your inner needs and the outer needs of being socialized into the norms of our larger society.
- Education is something we all experience on a daily basis, from birth until death. Formal education is mandatory, and it is to ensure a smooth and realistic view of society. Schools are supposed to be designed to display different segments of our world, from customs to beliefs. Core classes are designed to prepare students for adulthood, basic ways to earning and receiving the goods needed for a lifestyle. The way the government has interviened with high-stakes learning tests and the beliefs that all kids will go to college, I am not so certain.
- To assist us in becoming responsible, accountable, resourceful, lawabiding, functional, intelligent knowing citizens, that will be able to contribute to our communities. Peace Out.
- Self-actualization. And that includes ALL education : formal, informal, hidden, social, etc.
